Promo video for CRAWL Chapter 7, featuring footage from works by Brendan Drake Choreography and Danté Brown | Warehouse Dance

CRAWL

CRAWL was a multi-disciplinary, nomadic arts presenting series that ran from 2014-2017 in NYC. With a goal to challenge the way contemporary art (and particularly dance) was seen and experienced, CRAWL worked with nontraditional venues, built community partnerships, and showed urgent, relevant works spanning dance, music, and visual art.

CRAWL built bridges between commercial event production and abstract art. Events took place in unconventional venues that include empty apartments, abandoned garages, warehouses, galleries, and distilleries. CRAWL was social and accessible, yet still presented daring, relevant works and promoting critical conversation about them.

More than simply a roving arts showcase, CRAWL presented a vision for an artist-first community working to imagine an alternative, forward-thinking method for arts presentation.

“In a world where funding for the arts is being cut dramatically, CRAWL is a forward-thinking example of how business, art, and community can join forces to produce something bold and relevant.”
